Agility testing day (40yds dash, vertical, etc.) A.P.E: Program Designed to increase flexibility, coordination, strength, explosive power, and agility for athletes - youth to young adults. A.P.E is designed to be a very fun and highly interactive experience for the athletes involved.
Week 1
Flexibility- athletes will learn proper mechanics and intensity of static and dynamic stretching. Athletes will understand importance of maintaining flexibility for injury reduction and increased performance. -Watch and Learn- Athletes will be exposed to new and complex movements, that need time and rehearsal to be performed successfully. These new movements for flexibility, strength, and speed will develop the athletes: straight line and lateral mobility, explosive vertical power,
proper technique and form, as well as better proprioception.
Week 2
Body Control- Athletes will learn the importance of balance and Proprioception "knowing ones environment" in order to make sure complex movements are controlled, while still being explosive or dynamic in nature.
Week 3
Strength- Athletes will learn simple movements for strength and core stability. Movements include, but are not limited to, proper push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, squats (non-weighted), and lunges (5 types).
Week 4
Speed and Straight Line Velocity- Most important aspect of A.P.E., Athletes will demonstrate proper running form: stance, starts, straight line awareness, finish, and cool down. Athletes will perform better and increase speed through dynamic hip flexibility, explosive start offs, and proper form and finish. Athletes will be timed in the 40 yard dash, prior to week 4 and following week 8. Results will be recorded and available.
Week 5
Increased Speed through Angular Movement- Athletes will continue to work on speed from Week 4, Increased complexity will be done through the addition of angular movements. Angular movements meaning speed with changes in direction (not to be confused with agility).
Week 6
Agility, Reverse, and Lateral Velocity- Athletes will now demonstrate the cognitive ability to have speed in any and all directions. Athletes will perform the Cone drills (Box, Nebraska,"W" and Star) to increase overall agility. Athletes will continue using tools like the speed ladder, where they will learn complex movements and foot speed, to increase lateral velocity. Athletes will perform and be timed in the shuttle or 5-10-5 drill, prior to Week 6 and following Week 8. Results
will be recorded and available.
Week 7
Explosive Power- Athletes will demonstrate that they have learned the differences between speed and power. Athletes will learn the most diverse movements this week including but not limited to; the vertical jump, broad jump, B-run, Wall Drill, Cage Break "stance and starts". Athletes should demonstrate another dramatic increase in speed following Week 7.
Week 8
Conditioning, Testing, and Fun- The Hardest and Easiest week of A.P.E Training. Conditioning will be completed every day of A.P.E. but the first day of week 8 will test the athlete's endurance through: endurance activities like: the 12 minute run, gassers, and horses. The second day of week 8 will be a "game day". Athletes and Trainers/Coaches will compete in games like: dodgeball, battleship, and the Lifetime obstacle course (for time), but only after completing their final 40
yard dash and 5-10-5 shuttle drill for timed results.
